Digicel is a communications and entertainment company which provides mobile services, enterprise solutions, cloud computing, cable TV, broadband and engaging content. The mobile network provider launched in Jamaica in 2001 and now operates in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and Asia Pacific. With over 6,000 staff to train across several departments and countries, effective learning and development was a challenge.
According to Rachel Shadwell-Gibney Head of Learning and Development at Digicel, “The challenge we had was getting content to our learners because we are so geographically dispersed. Employees weren’t able to access our content online so we wanted to provide a series of modules in multiple languages.”
Digicel wanted three things from their learning program:
1) Engaging learning content
2) Fast delivery
3) An improved platform for employees to learn globally online.
Initially Olive Learning created the Digicel Foundation “Respect” video as part of a national campaign in Jamaica. The next stage of the project saw the creation 20 bespoke business development and soft skills courses for their L&D Department.
The courses were delivered as bite-sized interactive video based modules to help improve engagement. A broad range of courses have been taken by thousands of Digicel staff at all levels including: Retail On-Boarding, Individual Development Planning, Board Meeting and Presentation Skills, Employee Wellness and Ethics Guidance.
The new learning platform has been a real success in terms of upskilling of staff with a major cost benefit. It has revolutionised how staff train across the region; cutting travel costs and downtime, and allowing staff to train locally and in their own time.
The courses have been well received. Rachel says, “Great client support, 5 star service in respect of relationship management.” In terms of the video content, Shadwell says, “the quality of the product is superb and most definitely I would recommend if you truly want to deliver digital learning with a difference.”
Olive Learning continue to work closely with Digicel as a learning and training partner updating and developing new programmes and course content each quarter.
